About Us

The CHRIS platform aims to provide a comprehensive GIS- and web-based tool to allow the general public and decision makers to explore the climate-related hazards and information for the Province of Prince Edward Island. CHRIS was developed by the Government of Prince Edward Island and the University of Prince Edward Island. Funding was provided from the Government of Prince Edward Island and the Government of Canada.

Disclaimer

The hazard maps included in CHRIS are developed using a variety of tools and data from diverse sources. Despite significant efforts to ensure their accuracy, completeness, and timeliness, the maps are not guaranteed to be correct, complete, or current due to the following factors:
  • Data from different sources may vary in resolution and accuracy.
  • The modeling methods used have limitations in representing real-world conditions.
  • Some data sources are updated daily or weekly, so updates made after the hazard maps were created may not be included.
The pluvial (inland) flood hazard maps in CHRIS are intended for high-level hazard screening, public awareness, preliminary planning, and preliminary risk assessments. These results are approximate and not suitable for site-specific property or infrastructure assessments, which require detailed engineering flood hazard mapping studies. For site-specific questions or concerns, users should consult a professional.

CHRIS, including its data and maps, is developed with care and is believed to be reliable, but mechanical or human errors may occur. Commercial users and development practitioners should use the data and maps from CHRIS with caution. The Government of Prince Edward Island undertakes no duty or accepts no responsibility for any inaccuracies or omissions in the data, nor for any loss or damage caused by the use of CHRIS. Any conclusions or decisions based on the data in CHRIS are the sole responsibility of the user.
